Thank you for your response. My name is Katharine Harbury and the book's
title is "Colonial Virginia's Cooking Dynasty" (2004). A book reviewer's
comments about this book can be found in the "Richmond's
Times-Dispatch," March 7, 2004, if that would also help give you another
perspective about the book from someone else.

Some of the recipes have some garbled words or letters due to a probable
case of dyslexia rather than educational opportunities.

Sounds interesting! Can you repeat your name and the name of the book?
Thanks!

Subject: Foodways

James Brothers is correct that foodways is one of many important aspects
of history. For those who may want to learn more about late 17th to
early 18th century foods, customs, supersitions, flavorings, medicines,
never mind colorful personalities and human comedy, etc., see my book on
this subject. It mentions not only British traditions but also Native
American and African American contributions as found or implied from the
old recipes. The recipes themselves form the third section of the book,
which is entitled Colonial Virginia's Cooking Dynasty (published by
University of South Carolina Press).
