Immediate Position Opening: 
Historian, Richmond History Project Manager

Position Responsibilities:
The Valentine Richmond History Center, an AAM accredited institution, seeks a creative, flexible and mature individual for the part-time position of Historian at the Richmond History Gallery. The position is grant-funded through June 2008 at 20 hours per week, with extension possibly. The primary job responsibilities include serving as project manager and lead researcher for Richmond History Gallery Exhibition scheduled to open in 2010. This 3,000 + sq. ft. exhibition focuses on the Richmond region and its relationships with US history. This position will serve as the historian for the museum and will perform independent research, review primary and secondary research, work with scholars and community organizations to develop storylines and object lists of for this exhibition, as well as incorporate necessary programs and publications related to exhibition with the team     

Part-time, grant-funded position available through June 30, 2008, with extension possible. 

Position Qualifications: 
This position must hold a minimum of a MA in history, with a PhD preferred; must have extensive knowledge of US and Virginia history; must have knowledge of museum methods and standards for exhibition development; must have at least five years of experience; must be organized detail-oriented; must have the ability to manage multiple takes; must have the ability must have the ability to lead a successful exhibition project; to work as part of a team; must be able to collaborate with community organizations; must be able to set and meet deadlines; must have good communication skills; and provide excellent customer service.
