One of the standard works no reference shelf should be without is "The
Virginia Architects, 1835-1955: A Biographical Dictionary," by the
recently deceased John E. Wells and Robert E. Dalton (Richmond, 1997).
The lists of buildings attributed to the various architects is of
particular use.
