The Bridgewater College Civil War Institute presents 

"Lincoln: 200 Years Later" 

A one-day symposium featuring: 

Gary L. Ecelbarger, a Civil War historian and Lincoln scholar who has
written or co-written five books, including The Great Comeback: How
Abraham Lincoln Beat the Odds to Win the 1860 Republican Nomination
(2008) and Three Days in the Shenandoah : Stonewall Jackson at Front
Royal and Winchester (2008).  Echelbarger's talk will focus on Lincoln's
election in 1860 and is entitled "Abraham Lincoln under the Radar."  

Jason Emerson, an independent historian and freelance writer living in
Cazenovia, NY.  His books include The Madness of Mary Lincoln (2007) and
most recently Lincoln the Inventor (2008).  He currently is at work on
his biography of Robert Todd Lincoln, the oldest Lincoln son. Emerson
will discuss his work on Mary Lincoln.  

Sharon Roger Hepburn, Professor of History and Departmental Chair of the
Radford University History Department in Radford, VA.  Her most recent
work is Crossing the Border: A Free Black Community in Canada (2007).
Hepburn will discuss slaves' response to news of the Emancipation
Proclamation in a talk entitled "Lincoln as 'de Messiah'". 

Phillip C. Stone, President of Bridgewater College.  He is author of
numerous articles on Abraham Lincoln, and is Founder and President of
the Lincoln Society of Virginia and a member of the Advisory Committee
of the U. S. Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. Stone's
presentation is entitled "Why Lincoln Matters."
