As a Tar Heel, I can tell you that many Virginia
Quakers and a few from other colonies including Quaker
settlements in New England -- whether expelled or not
-- went to the Albemarle region of North Carolina
beginning in the 1680s, a few maybe even earlier.
Later, others scattered as far south as the Cape Fear
River and a few even went into northern South
Carolina. See the volume of the "Encyclopedia of
American Quaker Genealogy" by Hinshaw, Ed. that
contains North Carolina Quaker records.
