In reviewing the Virginia Land Tax lists for Prince George County between
1782 and 1793 (so far), I notice that a dozen or so people are not listed in
the general alphabetical run with their acres rather at the back as an
alteration, but for numerous years in a row.  

 

Why would they be listed separately for several years in a row and up to
five years running.  Could it be that their tax was based not on a transfer
or ownership but a lease or other right?  I'm trying to figure out why they
are treated differently.  Wes.
