Hi Folks,

This is a combination of meeting reminder and informational items. It's coming to you earlier than usual due to some travel plans.

1. The next meeting of the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond will be held on Wednesday, November 17, with dinner from 5:30 until 6:30, followed by the speaker. Josh Howard will present "The Battle of Guilford Courthouse." Josh is the author, with Larry Babits, of the excellent Long, Obstinate, and Bloody: The Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Meeting details are on our site at http://arrt-richmond.org/3.html. Information about the book is at http://arrt-richmond.org/10.html.

2. Please check http://arrt-richmond.org/2.html for the great 2011 lineup of speakers that Bruce Venter has arranged for us.

3. ARRT-R bylaws call for election of board members every two years. This will occur at the November meeting for the period 2011 - 2012. Steve Atkinson has graciously agreed to chair the election committee. After much thought and discussion with our senior advisor, I will again be putting my name forward for president. I'm still really enjoy doing the job and appreciate your support. Harry concurs with this decision. All other board members, save one, are also willing and interested in serving again. John Moore has decided to retire from the board. John has been secretary / historian since the beginning and has done a great job. He has been responsible for all the meeting summaries that appear on our site. Thanks very much, John. All the board members have served the round table well.

Brent Morgan has expressed a willingness to fill John's spot and will be running for the position. If anyone else is interested in offering their name for consideration for an office, please contact Steve at [log in to unmask] There will also be an opportunity at the meeting. As a reminder, only dues paying members are eligible to vote.

4. Dr. Hugh West, chair of the History Department at the U of R, reminds us that the second 2010 Douglas Southall Freeman Lecture will occur this Thursday, November 4, at 7:30 PM in Jepson Hall, room 118. Dr. Alan Taylor will speak on "Settling with the Americans: Upper Canada, Louisiana, and Texas." About 10 of our members attended and enjoyed his lecture of last week. More information is available at http://history.richmond.edu/teaching/freeman/index.html. The lecture is free and open to the public.

5. The Dr. Harry M. Ward Recognition and Roast Dinner was both a fun night and a deserved tribute to Harry. Over 60 people attended, although unfortunately all didn't make Bob Yankle's group shot, as they had departed. But check http://www.americanrevolutionassociation.com/images/HarryMWard2010/ for both Bob's wonderful gallery of pictures and Art Ritter's hilarious history of the Liberty Bell. Congratulations, Harry!

6. Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution has two very interesting events coming up. Charles Baxley shares the following:

7. Member Sarah Pace, who is active in the Henrico County Historical Society, sent information about Celebrate 400 Years of Colorful American History in Henrico County, VA. Check http://www.henrico400th.com/. Sarah has been very involved in all the planning. There is much revolutionary history in Henrico.

Thanks for making it through this long note. I hope to see you on November 17. And bring a friend.

Bill Welsch
