I also like "Gloau-ches-ter" as pronounced by non-natives, vs
glawster. I believe glawster is how it's pronounced in UK, right?

People talk about regional accents getting lost, and to an extent
it's true, but not to the extent that the pundits think. They need to
come out, get "on the ground", and listen to people. I also am amused
when people seem to think all southerners speak with the same
"moonlight and magnolias" accent of the deep south. In reality, just
in Virginia, for example, you can tell a Richmond accent vs a
Chesterfield County accent, and goodness knows the different accents
in Tidewater vs one from the Shenandoah Valley.
