For info on early slavery I would suggest Philip Morgan's "Slave
Counterpoint" and Winthrop Jordan's "White Over Black." I also cover
the early history, briefly, in my GW book, and discuss indentured
servitude, which took different forms. You could also look at Kathleen
Brown's "Good Wives, Nasty Wenches, & Anxious Patriarchs" for
indentured servitude.
