Thanks for the suggestions. I checked out a nearby library but all they
had was a couple Alan Eckert novels and  "Crucible of War" by Fred
Anderson which discuses some episodes returning home from the Forbes
Expedition without mention of a difficult river crossing. The Carnegie
Library is supposed to be well supplied with books but it's not by me in
Carnegie but over in Oakland. I haven't been there yet.
