The only thing I would add is that the "300 pounds" to get him back is
almost certainly pounds of tobacco, not pounds sterling or Virginia pounds
(money).

These runaway advertisements have been used creatively by many historians.
One example I'd urge list members to check out is a collection of sketches
of runaways (based on the descriptions in the ads) put together by
historian Bernard Bailyn and artist Richard Schlecht in Voyagers to the
West (1986).
