Contents of the July 2004 issue include:

* Divided Loyalties: An Account of the Family of William J. Weir
During the American Civil War, by Charlotte Cain. William Weir owned
"Liberia," the wealthiest plantation in the Manassas area. The author
describes how the family responded to the war crisis and what effect it
had on their lives and fortunes.

* The Celebration of Independence, 1855 - The eyewitness account
of a young British visitor at a July 4th event in antebellum Prince
William County.

* 1860 Federal Slave Schedule, Prince William County, by Beverly
Veness (concluded). A full transcript of the schedule, including
owner's name, number of slave houses, and the age, sex, and color of
each slave. Used in conjunction with other records such as estate
inventories, deeds, wills, tax lists, and early birth records
(1853-1861), it can help identify and trace African American families.

* Dumfries District Court Land Causes, by William Balderson
(continued). Gibson [Gilson] Berryman vs. Richard Graham, 1786-1795,
includes a list of nine tenants living on Berryman's lands in 1792.
John Tayloe vs. Charles Ewell, 1793-1796: Tayloe complains of Ewell
cutting down his trees. Their boundary dispute includes a deposition
from Thomas Maccaboy and mentions several neighbors.

* Did You Know? The story of Prince William's frequent change of
county seat.

* Harrison Family Bible - Enumerates the family and descendants of
John A. Harrison (1817-1900) and his wife Martha Foley (1810-1894).
Includes the surnames Brown, Conley, Dunbar, Evans, Larkin, Peters, and
Rector.
