There is a very strong tradition perpetuated by contemporaries of Nancy  
Hanks in Rutherford County, NC that she lived in the home of an Abrahm Enloe,  was 
impregnated by Mr. Enroe, and sent off to Kentucky where she married Mr.  
Thomas Lincoln.  The best work on this, chock full of affidavits from  people 
with first hand knowledge of the facts, is James Coggins The Eugenics of  
President Abraham Lincoln.  It also includes pictures of Wesley Enloe who  was 
Lincoln's half brother, and who is the spitting impage of Lincoln.
 
I have always found it odd that Nancy Hanks background has always remained  
such a mystery.  It appears that this is with good reason.
