Subject: Masonic Meeting In The Field Highlighting Free Masonry and American Civil War.

Mountain Home Lodge No. 263 and Virginia's Civil War Lodge of Research No. 1865 will hold a "joint lodge meeting in the field" on September 15, 2001 at Laurel Hill (JEB Start's birthplace) in Ararat, Virginia. Held outside, the lodge will be set up with early period furniture, wooden logs and candlelight lanterns. The meeting attempts to recreate the atmosphere of a lodge meeting held during that time period. For a few minutes it permit's those in attendance too imagine what a lodge meeting from that era might have been like. ALL OFFICERS will be dressed in either uniform or period dress. ALL OTHERS may dress in either period or casual clothing. This year's theme is the BLUE & GRAY and begins at 1:00 PM.
At the meeting's conclusion all Masons, their family members and guests are invited to listen as "GENERAL" JAMES D. COLE, Virginia's Grand Master of Masons makes a special presentation. Guided and self guided tours of Laurel Hill are available. You can learn more about JEB Stuart as well as the ongoing efforts to preserve his birthplace. In addition, if you have any Civil War relics you are particular fond of, you are invited to bring them for a "SHOW & TELL" session. A BAR-B-Q dinner will be served after the meeting. A $10 donation is requested to help defray the cost of the meal. All proper dispensations have been granted for this joint meeting. This will be a tiled meeting: Please remember to bring your apron as well as a lawn chair. The attendance for last year's meeting exceeded 150 Masons. An even larger turnout is expected this year.
