Virginia Foundation for the Humanities
Residential Fellowships for 2009-2010

The Virginia Foundation for the Humanities offers residential
fellowships to scholars and writers in the humanities. We seek
applications that are intellectually stimulating, imaginative, and
accessible to the public. There are no restrictions on topic, and
applications are invited from across the broad spectrum of the
humanities. Projects that use the humanities to address current social
and political issues are especially welcome.

Fellows have University of Virginia faculty status while in residence.
As visiting faculty, Fellows have access to all University of Virginia
research and recreational facilities, on-site library delivery,
university lectures series and other events, and faculty housing.
Fellows' offices are at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities,
located on a scenic property several miles from UVa.

We provide stipends up to $15,000 per semester; summer Fellows usually
receive travel funds only.

Residencies may be for one semester or one academic year. Applicants
need not have advanced degrees, but the VFH does not support work toward

a degree. Postdoctoral applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for
projects other than dissertation revisions.

Former VFH Fellows must wait three years before applying for another
Fellowship. We welcome proposals for affiliation with the community and
office space (without stipend).
