HOORAY!!! HOORAY!!! Don't let those dad-burned Pilgrims do it again. At least so far, we have been spared a re-run of the Public Television 'Pilgrim House.', but I bet some producer capatilizes on Jamestown 2007, and brings it back!!!!!

I never did see The New World. Is it salvagable? Is anybody else working on a major movie, or must we retrench and look to Disney for 'Pocohantas?' Ughhhh I hope not.

Some months ago when somebody (was it Brent Tarter?) conducted a series of questions on who was "The Greatest Virginian, who contributed most to Jamestown, etc. I went with Capt. John Smith. Since then I have read several accounts and he rises even higher in my estimation. Oh yes, it does look like he cooked up that little story about Pocohontas. But his experiences in the Netherlands, in eastern Europe fighting the Turks, escape to Russia, back to England on to Jamestown, etc. should make for a rousing movie. Has any such ever been made?

Never one to miss a chance to plug a project, David Diggs Suite for Band of Music from the New World is really quite good. About 12 minutes, and James Horner (the composer of the score for the movie) himself has called it "thrilling." If the Lehigh University Wind Ensemble is able to come to Jamestown next May, they will perform it; otherwise, you can pick it up on the CD of music from 1807, 1907 and 2007 at better gift shops in the area.
