Anne,

Okay, let's take this off list after this because I don't think everyone
needs or wants to read this, but  . . . I did look at the SOLs.  As I
said in my initial post, my list was explicitly of Virginians mentioned
in the SOLs and does not include non-Virginians.  Everyone on my list
seems to be in the SOLs.  Perhaps I missed a Virginian?  If so, let me
know.

Greg, Do take a look at the specific SOLs I mentioned. Most of the
people you listed are also named in the SOLs.

In general, fourth graders in Virginia specifically study Virginia
History, and all of the people on the list are at least mentioned in the
history books, including that horrid man, Harry Flood Byrd. When I did
the Famous Americans pages, his was the hardest page to do in a positive

to see how I handled that disgraceful man.
