Carolyn,

If you haven't already, you might want to consider posting this to the
Fiction-L listserv - see http://www.webrary.org/rs/FLposting.html.  This
list members are mostly librarians and would be a really great source of
suggestions.  Alternately, perhaps there is someone on VA-HIST who is
also on Fiction-L and wouldn't mind passing this on to them.  You might
also want to see if you can get access to NoveList, an online fiction
database that many public libraries have a subscription to.
