Peter Bergstrom is correct; the citation "Va. Hist. Collections, vol. 8, p.
278," is to the Collections of the Virginia Historical Society (the
11-volume so-called "new series," published in the 1880s and 1890s). Volume
8 is the second volume of the _Abstract of the Proceedings of the Virginia
Company of London, 1619-1624,_ prepared by Conway Robinson and edited by
Robert Alonzo Brock (1889).
