I am trying to track down the death record of one of my Civil War
ancestors who apparently died at Petersburg, VA during the war while serving
in a unit from Richmond.  His name was Martin or Mastin Duke (it is hard to
read the record that I have).  Does anyone know of a good source of names of
Confederate soldiers who died in and around Petersburg during the war?  I got
his name from a postwar claim made by my direct ancestor, Thomas H. Duke, who
was a unionist during the war living in Charlottesville, and who put in a
claim for tobacco and a horse taken by Sheridan's men (he was rewarded for
his loyalty by having his claim denied).  In response to the 80 questions
that had to be answered in such a claim, Thomas noted that his brother,
Martin or Mastin, fought for the South and died at Petersburg.  So, I am
looking for a record that might list him as having been killed there, along
with his unit, etc.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

       ps:  Brent, how's that for a Virginia history question (Lincoln lack
of leadership was responsible for Martin or Mastin's death, but let's not go
there, OK?).
