W. Scott Smith asked, Has anyone ever heard of a Mr. McKin, who was a
carpenter in Richmond during the 1790's?

Scott,

Probably this was William McKim, carpenter, working 1788 to 1820. The
Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts has compiled an invaluable index
to craftsmen working in the South before 1820. If you call Martha Rowe,
Research Associate, at 336-721-7360, or write her at MESDA, P.O. Box 10310,
Winston-Salem, NC 27108, she can send you copies of what information the
museum has on McKim. I didn't see Peter Elliott listed on the Virginia
masterlist.
