And there was no requirement that a building had to be insured. It may
have stood in the early 19th century but no policy seen on it. Case in
point, a house that stands on E. Marshall Street today between N. 26th
and N. 27th. Was part of the church standing next door and built c.1817
but no policy is seen on it at the time right after construction or
years afterwards. Another case in point is my own house built in 1812
(Capt Charles Wills mansion - oldest in Church Hill north). There were
policies drawn up starting in January 1813 until the 1850s and then
nothing. Some of the maps as you mentioned, show only the house while
others show the various out buildings (2-story brick kitchen,
smokehouse, sheds, and carriage house) - or mentions them along with
other property listed on a separate policy.

The Mutual Assurance Society had City and Country Divisions until the
Country Division was abolished in 1820. They started in 1794 and are
still going, amazingly enough. Each structure on the property was
elective, thus if one had 5 buildings, 3 might be insured with no
mention of the others. Each building has a stated function and value
with the aggregate given as well. A map typically accompanied the policy
with the relationship of the buildings to one another in space and with
the building details also listed.
