Researchers interested in Essex County may know that the public death
records have now been published for the years 1856-1896, based primarily on
the Richmond (Auditor of Public Accounts) copy. The local copy at the
courthouse in Tappahannock, Virginia is rather incomplete. The book
presents in alphabetical order all death records found at the Library of
Virginia for Essex County, and indexes place names. Copies are available
for purchase, as follows: Wesley E. Pippenger, "Essex County, Virginia
Death Records, 1856-1896" (2011), 230 pp.; paper; perfect-bound; $30 plus $5
shipping . Order from the compiler at P.O. Box 309, Tappahannock, VA
22560. Libraries may send a purchase order.
