My ancestor is credited as one of the seaman responsible for the capture of the pirate, Lewis Guittar, in Lyn-Haven Bay, 29 August 1699.
We have located a couple hundred pages of court records, but I do not know where to find how my ancestor came to be in the navy.

Can someone tell me where I can find his naval records? In the gratuity citation he was acknowledged as being an A B seaman on the Nicholson.
He was actually serving on board the Shoreham when this event took place.

Thank you for any information you may be able to provide or any suggestions for expanding our research.
.
