I'm sure there are others on this list better qualified to answer this. I'll just say that the one time I delved into Main's numbers (while trying to verify some information about Richard Corbin) they seemed far from complete (at least in Corbin's case). Main's list no doubt remains invaluable, but I'd be inclined to query any specific data points, rather than accept them at face value.

Subject: [VA-HIST] Economic data?

Is Main's list of the 100 wealthiest Virginians still considered
usable? Or is the data too old?

I'm also wondering if there are recent tabulations of average
slaveholdings and landholdings in Virginia in the late 1700s and early
1800s.
