I'm very rusty on doing genealogy, but one of the problems mentioned in your
posts rang a bell.  I seem to recall that there is a compiled index
(originally a card catalog?) of death notices (perhaps even of names?) from
early Richmond newspapers.  It could have been at LVA, SWEM or the main
Richmond Public Library.  I can't remember, but am sure that someone on
VA-Hist will know.
