Not to get in over my head here, but aren't two different subjects being 
discussed?

It seems to me that material preservation is one thing. Putting material on 
media and migrating it through the years to other media is something else 
entirely. I would hope that materials put on some form of media are not 
subsequently destroyed, but are archived appropriately.
