There was also a great "Gust" on 2 September 1775 that made quite a mess in
the lower Chesapeake Bay. It is described in the contemporary Virginia
Gazettes.

Subject: Great Gust

Greetings All!

Would some kind soul please remind me of when and where the "Great Gust"
occurred? Was it the hurricane of Sept. 1667 that devastated the east
coast? So far I've found mention of that at the NOAA weather site and
in Hening (Act to prohibit export of grain & bread).

I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction of original
source information identifying the Great Gust.
