Some of the gems to be found in going through the estate records for
Lancaster County from 1835-1865 are such as this of books from the
estate of Elizabeth Selden in 1848. She was twice married, first to
William O. Nutt in 1796 and second to Richard Selden in 1803. The
books probably came through the estate of her second husband.

I am wondering if any you book affiiandos can recognize some of these
titles, and what they would be worth today.

i.	Lewis’ Notologey, 10 cents
ii.	Burroughs Memoirs, 10 cents
iii.	Herveys Meditations, 25 cents
iv.	M’s Universal Geography, 25 cents
v.	Oneills Geography, 10 cents
vi.	Conf[essions] of Faith, 6 cents
vii.	Prayer Book, 12 cents
viii.	Wisdoms Voice, 10 cents
ix.	Wistar’s Anatomy, 2 volumes, 10 cents
x.	Homer’s Anatomy, 1 volume, 5 cents
xi.	Paris’ Pharmacologia, 10 cents
xii.	McGendies Phrenology [the “science” of skull bumps] 10 cents
xiii.	McNevit’s Bienda, 5 cents
xiv.	Thomas’ Practice, 10 cents
xv.	Pope’s Works, 7 volumes, $1.50
xvi.	Locke’s Essay, $1.00 (no doubt a political treatise)
xvii.	Marshall’s Life of Washington, 5 volumes and map, $2.50
xviii. Goldsmith’s Animated Nature, 4 volumes, $200
xix.	Encylopedia of Arts & Sciences, 11 volumes, $2.75
xx.	Rollins Ancient History, 9 volumes, $4.50
xxi.	1 Large Family Bible, $2.00

By comparison with other items in the inventory, these books were
considered of equal value to such things as an ink stand pend, 5
geese, a silver ladle, 4 mugs and tea pot, a bread basket and two
conch shells.
