In another forum, I corrected a comment about the president-elect being the first Black American to become president by pointing out that by definition he is a mulatto.? I got a significant amount of negative comment on my use of the word suggesting that it is a racially inappropriate term, although found in?every dictionary I researched.

Is this the?academic/educational system?language police at work, or is it a truly offensive term?
