Probably only by default as there doesn't seem to be the free resources
online like there use to be.  I remember about 10 years ago a group of
us who hosted county website through Rootsweb banded together to boycott
places like Ancestry who "stole" trees from people and no way to remove
them from their site.  But there are people like me, on a fixed income,
who can not afford the $$$ to access pay sites which gets back to
"Volunteers"... or the lack of them.

I also remember the day when the Volunteer was king and we relished in
trying to outdo one another... I don't see that enthusiasm any longer
through the old reliable "free" resources.

I still try to volunteer when asked at the Virginia State Library - that
is when I can catch them open for patrons on Saturday's for us who work
9-5 weekdays.  Lately it has been hard to find them available on a
Saturday.
