Passing along information for this great event:

April 20 - 21, 2013

22nd Annual Battersea Revolutionary War Reenactment
Battle of Petersburg, VA
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission $ 5 for adults.

The City of Petersburg proudly invites you to attend the 232nd Anniversary of the Reenactment ofthe 1781 Battle of Petersburg. Our weekend encampment and re-created battles are held at Battersea, the home of Colonel John Banister, the first mayor of Petersburg and a signer of the Articles of Confederation. While Battersea is not the actual site ofthe 1781 battlefield, it was utilized by the British troops when they occupied the town in May of 1781.

Battersea consists of 35 acres of excellent camp and tactical ground for foot, horse and artillery. There will be the reenactment of the 1781 battle each day at 1:30 p.m., military skirmishes, period music, children's activities and games, blacksmith demonstrations, a detached hospital, an herbalist, period clothing, and much more.

Robert A. Selig, Ph.D., will deliver a presentation on the porch at Battersea at 2:30 p.m., immediately following the re-enactment of the Battle of Petersburg. Dr. Selig's presentation will focus on the events in and around Petersburg between April 25 and May 25,1781, and will place that crucial month in the history of Petersburg into the broader context of the war between Major General William Phillips' arrival in Portsmouth on April 1 and the victory at Yorktown on October 1781.
