Lonny,

Works published prior to 1923 are in the public domain and no longer under
copyright. For works published after 1923, the questions are much more
complicated. There is an excellent explanation of "When Works Pass Into The
Public Domain" at http://www.unc.edu/~unclng/public-d.htm

Subject: Copyright Info

What is the copyright law for a book with a copyright of 1919? Has the
copyright expired?
