TO HORSE! with LIGHT HORSE HARRY LEE and BEN HUGGINS!

Please join the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond for our next meeting on Wednesday, May 21, at the University of Richmond. Dr. Benjamin L. Huggins, author and an assistant editor of the Papers of George Washington at the University of Virginia, will present “Light Horse Harry’s Greatest Day – Paulus Hook, Springfield, or New Garden?” As a former Springfield resident, you know what my vote will be.

IMPORTANT

Please note that, due to the University of Richmond’s summer dining hours, we will meet for dinner from 5 – 6 PM, with the meeting beginning shortly after 6 PM, instead of the usual 6:30 PM. The meeting will take place in the Westhampton Room of the Heilman Dining Center. Details and maps are at http://arrt-richmond.blogspot.com/p/2013-meeting-schedule.html. Please join us and bring a friend. All are welcome.

Other news.

1. If you missed Andrew O’Shaughnessy when he spoke to us last year or simply want to again hear him discussing his The Men Who Lost America, Andrew will be speaking at the Virginia Historical Society on Thursday, May 22 at noon. Details are at http://www.vahistorical.org/attend-event/programs-and-activities/lectures-and-classes/men-who-lost-america-british-leadership?start=2014-05-22T12:00. His book continues to garner well deserved kudos.

2. Gerald Holland, president of the new Williamsburg / Yorktown ARRT, writes that they have a new base.

Could you please pass on that the Williamsburg/Yorktown ARRT now has a
permanent new home. We will be meeting at Grace Episcopal Church Parish
Hall in old town Yorktown. First Monday of the even numbered months at
630. Our next meeting is June 4, with Glenn Williams speaking on Lord
Dunmore's War

3. Many of you have been following Todd Andrlik’s fascinating on line Journal of the American Revolution at http://allthingsliberty.com/. Here’s an exciting announcement from Todd.

JAR has just signed a multi-year agreement with Westholme Publishing for the publication of annual hardcover volumes, starting May 2015.

A couple months ago, I met Westholme CEO Bruce Franklin at a RevWar conference in Williamsburg and planted the idea of a possible marriage between his company and JAR. Two weeks ago, Bruce was in Chicago for a sales conference and we met for lunch, which turned into a rapid-fire brainstorming session. Before we even looked at our menus, it was obvious that Bruce and I shared the same vision for this book series. Co-editors Don Hagist and Hugh Harrington are equally thrilled with the plans for the new books, and we know you'll be, too. This collaboration is a tremendous opportunity for JAR and many of you to reach an expanded audience.

Unlike last year's volume, the new books will be more traditional in size and design with comprehensive indexes and a companion digital edition for each volume. The target length is 55 to 75 articles per volume.

Similar to the last volume, we aim to capture the best original research and perspective from the previous calendar year. Since our cut-off point for the previous book was summer of 2013, we will consider all works published from August 2013 through early December 2014 for the inaugural Westholme edition. And we want to continue offering a limited amount of space for exclusive submissions, so if you have any new ideas incubating and think they merit a reservation for the print edition, please send us a synopsis.

The Conference that Todd mentions is our own Bruce Venter’s Annual Conference on the American Revolution. The dates for 2015 are March 20 –22 in Williamsburg. Mark your calendars. Bruce Franklin’s Westholme is the new premier publisher of Revolutionary War books. Check http://westholmepublishing.com/

Please bring your 2014 preservation partner suggestions to the May meeting. See you there.
