Anne Pemberton has just written, "I am going to be the first to say, it
is time to wrap up this discussion."

I agree.

A small number of people have been going on at great length, stating and
restating the same opinions that they have aired on this list several
times in the past and annoying a number of subscribers who are leaving
the list on that account.

I hate very much to do this, but I suggest that we need to call a
temporary halt to this repetitious bantering. Questioning the character
and motives of people you disagree with is almost always going to lead
you into errors, and it does not advance understanding.

If you wish to continue criticizing other people, rather than discussing
scholarship, please do it in some other venue.
