To celebrate Women’s History Month, the Library of Virginia, along with 
Dominion and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, is pleased to 
announce the availability of the 2008 Virginia Women in History poster 
highlighting the state and national contributions of eight Virginia women and 
including a short biography of each woman honored. The posters, along with 
primary source material about the honorees and curriculum guides suitable for 
teachers in grades K–12, are available on the Library’s Web site at: 
http://lva.virginia.gov/vw2008/.
 
The women honored on this year’s poster are:
 
•Frances Culpeper Stephens Berkeley Ludwell (ca. 1634–ca. 1695), James City 
County, Political Leader
•Edith Turner or Wané Roonseraw (ca. 1754–1838), Southampton County, 
Nottoway (Cheroenhaka) Chief
•Lucy Goode Brooks (1818–1900), Richmond, Civic Leader
•Providencia Velazquez Gonzalez (1917–  ), Dale City, Community Activist
•Isabel Wood Rogers (1924–2007), Richmond, Presbyterian Educator
•Patricia Buckley Moss (1933–  ), Waynesboro, Artist and Philanthropist
•Elizabeth Bermingham Lacey (1945–  ), Richmond, Judge
•Sharyn Arwood McCrumb (1948–  ), Roanoke County, Writer

During the month of March, the 2008 Virginia Women in History Panel Exhibition 
will be on display in the lobby of the Library of Virginia, and will travel to 
locations around the state for the rest of the year. Visit the 2008 Virginia 
Women in History Web site for a full listing of dates and venues.

The Library of Virginia also invites you to our annual celebration honoring 
women who have played an integral part in Virginia from its beginnings. The 
reception will be held at the Library of Virginia on Thursday, March 27, 2008, 
from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Lisa LaFata Powell, journalist and community 
volunteer, is the host for the evening. The event is free but you must call 
804.692.3813 by March 21, 2008, to reserve your seat.
