I'm investigating a family story that claims a mother and young daughter travelled by stagecoach from Albemarle County to Yorktown in fall of 1781 to nurse a brother/uncle wounded in the Battle of Yorktown.

Was there any public stagecoach travel before or during the Revolution between Albemarle County and Yorktown--or anywhere else in VA?  (I thought stagecoach service in general started early 1800's--but can't find any information specific to Virginia.)

When and where was the first stagecoach line in Virginia?

Thanks for your help.--Joan
