Dear Joyce,
thank you for posting this info about your "... of the month" web features!
this is a great thing to be doing, I think, to use the web to highlight
special features and resources of our libraries. you probably know about
Stratford Hall's "document of the month" feature:
http://www.stratfordhall.org/july00doc/letter.htm

The Jefferson Library at Monticello has just recently been added to the
Thomas Jefferson Foundation's web site:
http://www.monticello.org/library/index.html

At the moment the main thing that we are highlighting on our homepage is the
new library building that is currently under construction. I do intend,
though, to begin a rotating spotlight in which we can call attention to
("advertize") new, or old, library items that need to be publicized.

Subject: New/updated Alexandria web sites

The staff of the Alexandria Library, Special Collections has been hard
at work for the last several months generating new sites
featuring material from our collections and as as well, updating some
familiar standbys.

"Document of the Month," by Kathleen Chappell
Selected historic material from the collection. We'll say nothing more
about the document selected for May, except that during
the Spanish-American War, the restaurants and eateries in Richmond
offered much better bills of fare than the mess halls of the
U.S. Army.

"Photo of the Month," by Heather Muller
Thematically appropriate images for the time of year. You will find a
local version of "March Madness" in the archive.
http://www.alexandria.lib.va.us/monthly/photo.htm

The above two sites include an archive of previous monthly sets.

"Photographs from the Charles Sampson Collection," by Kathleen Chappell
You can almost hear the fire sirens wailing while viewing images of fire
fighting apparatus, fire stations, and firefighters in their
uniforms from the late 19th through mid-20th centuries.

"Obituary Index to the Alexandria Gazette, 1916-"
The last time we posted here, we reported 1,800 entries for 1916-1919.
We just added 1920-1925, another 5,700 names.
Staff is rapidly closing the decade and it won't be too long before we
post through 1930.
