Seeking to determine the location of a Reading Creek in the area that
comprised Montgomery County in 1786 - as mentioned in seven out-of-state
re-printings of this April 19, 1786, item from a Richmond newspaper (the
original of which I have not yet found and may not be extant):

"We are informed by a gentleman from Montgomery county, in this state, that
a GOLD MINE has lately been found near Reading Creek; and, from an assay
made on some of the ore, the quantity produced of that valuable metal
exceeded the most sanguine expectations."

No such mine appears in Palmer C. Sweet's Gold in Virginia
(Charlottesville, 1980) or its supplement.

Thank you
