Political Correctness has been helpful in building awareness of hurtful,
prejudicial epithets, but it should NEVER inhibit free speech concerning
verifiable, well-documented historical events, no matter how "uncomfort-
able" or unpopular such a topic may prove to be.  The aim should be to
avoid "spin"--not to construct one myth to counter another.  The current
trend is to applaud Indian "resistance" to oppression, while sugar-coating
the violent tactics employed.  Terrorism needs to be studied in depth as
a valid, specific tactic used by many ethnic groups through the ages, and
it will never be understood if it remains a "dirty" word used only to
condemn, rather than to explain, behavior, with little concern for
historical context.
