We are sending this notice before the holidays in order to give you a
"heads up" to a new daytime program series we are beginning in January.
Our group programs are held in the Bull Run Library's community room.
Sign language interpretation of library programs is available if
requested three weeks in advance.  Funding for RELIC programs is
supported by grants from the Friends of the Central and Bull Run
Libraries.

TIME OUT FOR GENEALOGY:

Daytime Programs to Broaden Your Skills

Presented by the staff of RELIC, these programs are designed for persons
who want to learn basic and specialized techniques of family history
research but who may be unable to come to an evening program.  Each
session will last about one hour, including time for questions and
answers.  You may register for any in this series by calling RELIC at

<mailto:[log in to unmask]> .  Here are the sessions scheduled for
January and February:

Wednesday January 10, 2 p.m. - Genealogy 101.  The basic steps to
starting your family history.

Wednesday January 31, 11 a.m. - Missed by the Census Taker?   Tips for
finding that ancestor whose name is missing from the census index.

Friday February 2, 11 a.m. - Genealogy 101 (repeat).

Friday February 9, 2 p.m. - Finding Your Ancestor in the News.  How to
use news sources for fleshing out your ancestor's story.  

Friday February 23, 11 a.m. - Not found in a Passenger List?  Tips for
finding that ancestor whose name is missing from the immigration
indexes.

  

RELIC PRESENTS .

Following are evening programs at Bull Run Regional Library related to
local history and genealogy.  Regular times for this monthly series is
the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December) at 7:30 p.m.

FAMILY SEARCH INDEXING:

A NEW VISION FOR ONLINE GENEALOGY

Julie Gideon, manager of the Centreville (Va.) Family History Center
will describe the Family Search Indexing project, already underway.
Learn about the scope of the plan to digitize, index, and post to the
internet, the microfilm archive of the Family History Library in Salt
Lake City.  You will also learn how you can participate in this
ambitious project that will make a wide variety of genealogical
materials, from around the world, easy to access.

            This free program is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, at
Bull Run Regional Library, beginning at 7:30 p.m.  To reserve a seat

NETWORK TO FREEDOM:

TRACING THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD

IN PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY

            The Underground Railroad was an informal network of people
and institutions who helped slaves escape to freedom in the years before
the Civil War.  Network to Freedom is a national program to recognize
sites that were significant in that struggle.  Historian Pat Knock will
present an overview of the program and how she was able to put
Leesylvania State Park on the roster of registered sites.   Learn what
sources are available to identify and document other potential sites in
our area.

            This free program will be presented on Tuesday, February 27,
at 7:30 p.m. at Bull Run Regional Library.  To reserve a seat contact

THE GENEALOGY DOCTOR IS IN

 

For tips on starting your own research or to help solve a genealogical
or historical problem that has stumped you, schedule a private,
30-minute visit with RELIC's Don Wilson.  Generally the First and Third
Thursdays of each month, 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon, at Bull Run Regional
Library.

 

Upcoming available dates: January 4 and 18, February 1 and 15.  

Choice of times:  10:00, 10:45, 11:30 a.m.
