To add to Jim's suggestion:

I have the whole series of Abstracted Will and Deed Book by Dee Ann Buck
for Frederick County, Virginia. She includes the names of slaves mentioned
in the documents. Many have ages, sex, value and trades and some show
relationships between the slaves. In some, if you read between the lines, you
can guess at which slaves were related by blood to the owner. Some of the
earliest documents sometime mention slaves that were given to the owner by a
certain owner.

Her books for Frederick County, Virginia start with the year 1743 when
Frederick County was Old Frederick County that included Shenandoah, Warren, and
Clark Counties. In addition, last year she published the deed books for
Warren County for 1836-1861 (Books A-G). Warren County also shows a lot of
slave history back through Old Frederick County plus Fauquier County (she has
a series here, too). The Warren and Fauquier County line is the Leeds
Manor area where many slave transactions can be found.
