In trying to track old William Cabbell from England to America, I found an entry in "The Complete Book of Immigrants" that said.....

"William Cabbell for John Rye sails for Virginia aboard the Nevis Merchant".

........ Once he reached Virginia, I never found any other reference to William and John Rye. William was very active, surveyed land, served as Coroner, brought suits, was sued, etc. Any ideas what the "for" means?

I hope to visit Bristol, England next spring and would like to see the original entry in whatever book. Any suggestions on where to start?

Randy Cabell
