On the libraries funded by David K. E. Bruce, you might like to check
out an article entitled "Virginia's Andrew Carnegie: David K. E. Bruce
funded free public libraries for 11 rural counties," which appeared in
the Library of Virginia's magazine Broadside (winter 2010, pages 8-10).
The article includes on page 10 a sidebar with the dates each library
was established and whether the building is still in use. A PDF of the
magazine is available at this link:

Subject: [VA-HIST] Libraries funded by David Bruce

Folks,

I'm doing some research on buildings in Brookneal, Virginia, and am
trying to pinpoint the date of construction for the building constructed
as a library (now a community building) by the David Bruce Library Fund.

I have found online information about the construction/establishment of
libraries by David Bruce in Charlotte Court House and Hanover. I
understand that he funded 11 libraries in rural Virginia.

Does anyone know where research on this fund might be located? I'm
looking for the date of construction of the Brookneal Library as well as
the
architect(s) that Bruce may have used.

Lynchburg, VA
