"Minitree Hill" about a mile northeast of Providence Forge is, at 118
feet above sea level, the highest elevation in New Kent County. The
website "Virginia Mountain Peak Information" even refers to it as a
"mountain summit." Would its location fit in with Lafayette's movements
shortly before and after August 11th?

 John,

I have looked for New Kent Mountain as well. Capitaine du Chesnoy's map
of LaFayette's movements shows him near Cumberland Landing (north of New
Kent Court House) on August 11th and 30th. His letters indicate that he
was at "New Kent Mountain" on August 11th, as you know. I have looked at
modern USGS Topo maps as well as Civil War maps for any indication of a
feature with that name, but have had no luck. The Virginia Department of
Historic Resources Data Sharing System (DSS) does not contain any
identified 18th century military camps in New Kent County.
