Neil,

I know it's tough to realize that your heroes are considered dung under the
shoes of others because of what the did in their lives. But, as to civility
on this list, it has been woefully absent the past few days with the
harrangues about this one a liar and that one a liar, and the rest of the
tawdry comments.

Have you ever considered what life was like for Jefferson's slaves after he
died in debt. They were sold. The families were separated. Where they may
have had an easy life at Monticello, such was not likely the case after
Jefferson's death. Is that the way one rewards their loyal employees? Is
that how one treats their neighbors? His slaves worked off Jefferson's life
of luxury! And, you want to limit what people say about this man?

Ah, you expect more than humanity can bear.

Anne
