Research Assistant
Valentine Richmond History Center
Richmond, Virginia

Description: The Valentine Richmond History Center is conducting a search
to fill the position of Research Assistant. This individual provides
reference and research services for the History Center Collections, which
include the Archives, General Collection, and Costumes & Textiles. Duties
include answering research inquiries; setting research appointments;
performing searches of and pulling materials from the History Center
Collections; completing photograph orders and charging permission fees;
maintaining statistics on Collections use, photograph orders and permission
fees; improving access to the Collections; performing other duties as
requested. As time permits, the Research Assistant will assist in the
development of finding aids for the Archives that may include: inventory,
cataloguing and data entry of objects in the Archives collection; review of
files for data entry into the collections management database. All work
performed in this position is conducted in accordance with the museum’s
official Collections Management Policy, adhering to the code of ethics
advised by the American Association of Museums. This position is supervised
by the Director of Archives and Photographic Services.

Qualifications: Candidate must be organized, detail-oriented, a strong team
player and have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.   The
Research Assistant must hold a B.A. in history, art history or museum
studies with some experience in library or archival reference work.
Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets is important. Must be
able to work the following hours: Tuesday – Friday, 11:30am – 4:30pm.
