Fourth Annual "RELIC After Dark"

To Feature Photo Detective Maureen Taylor

          RELIC staff is now taking reservations for our fourth annual
"RELIC After Dark," to be held at Bull Run Regional Library on Saturday,
20 September 2008, from 7 to 11 p.m.  The featured speaker, at 8 p.m.,
will be Maureen Taylor, an internationally recognized photo
identification and family history expert.  Her talk will be "Identifying
and Dating Family Photographs."  Tips for discovering who's who in your
family album.  "Learn 10 easy steps for naming those unidentified
pictures tucked away in shoeboxes." 

Her books include 

*	Uncovering Your Ancestry through Family Photographs; 
*	Preserving Your Family Photographs: How to Organize, Present and
Restore Your Precious Family Images; 
*	Capturing Memories (Your Family Story in Photographs). 

The event includes assorted beverages and a catered buffet dinner,
access to the Library's  extensive research facilities for the evening,
with free printing from electronic resources.  Library staff will be on
duty to assist.  Admission to the event is $25 per person.  Seating is
limited.  To reserve a place at this year's "RELIC After Dark," send a
check made out to Prince William Public Library System (or PWPLS) to
RELIC, Bull Run Regional Library, 8051 Ashton Avenue, Manassas, VA
20109.   Please note that reservations cannot be confirmed until payment
is received.  

Partial funding for this event is provided by the Friends of the Central
and Bull Run Libraries.  Proceeds will be used to support RELIC's
collections and programs.

OTHER RELIC PROGRAMS

 

Here are our latest offerings.  Funding for RELIC programs is provided
by the Friends of Central and Bull Run Libraries.  Sign language
interpretation is available for Prince William Public Library programs

Library's community room.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS FOR GENEALOGISTS

Presented by Diane Nesmeyer

Having trouble finding particular documents or people in your files?
Want to be able to quickly tell what research you need to do next?
Local genealogist Diane Nesmeyer will show you what to do with all that
information you are collecting.  She will provide suggestions for
developing an organized approach to genealogical research and dealing
with the volumes of paper that research produces.    This program will
be presented on Tuesday, May 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bull Run Regional
Library community room.

USING MAPS IN GENEALOGY

Presented by Corinna Hodges Nowak

            Learn how a variety of maps, including USGS, fire insurance,
land grants, tax maps, plats, and more can help locate your ancestors,
particularly using online resources.  Genealogist Corinna Hodges Nowak
will present an overview of the history of mapping in the U.S., along
with map sources and skills.  

            The program will be presented at Bull Run Regional Library
on Thursday, June 12, at 2 p.m. and repeated on Tuesday, June 24 at 7
