Straight to the Source: An Introduction to Research Using the Collections At the Library of Virginia

This year marks the 30th annual presentation of the Friends of the Archives Straight to the Source program. It is the longest running series of public programming focused on the archival collection at the Library of Virginia. This spring’s program is scheduled for Friday, March 15, 2024, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m., at the Library of Virginia, 800 East Broad Street, Richmond.

Archivist Lydia Neuroth provides an update on her work on Virginia Untold and the fascinating individual stories of African Americans drawn from local court records prior to 1865. Errol Somay, recently retired director of the Virginia Newspaper Program, reviews the progress of the project during his tenure and looks at what is ahead. Virginia Dunn, Archives and Library Services Manager, offers clues on how to become a super user of the Library’s catalog, and Kathy Jordan, Digital and Web Services Manager, will discuss Library of Virginia content that is available for free on Ancestry, the largest network of genealogical and historical records on-line.

The cost for members of the Friends is $40, and includes a box lunch. The cost for non-members is $55, and includes a box lunch. Join the Friends and attend as a member for $75. Registration deadline is March 11th. Checks made payable to the Friends can be sent to P.O. Box 4804, Richmond, VA 23220.
