Janet and Mary,

Thanks for answering my query.  I did the google search and found quite a
lot of data.  It is very difficult for me to separate the wheat from the
chaff.  I'd love to go to England and do some research, but it would
probably be frustrating because,as you mention, there is so much material.
And, having looked at the 1624/25 Muster in the original handwriting on
microfilm at the Virginia State Library, it isn't easy to read either!

It seems that many of the early leaders of the Jamestown Colony had indeed
been serving in the military.  There were an awful lot of "Captains", too.
I wonder if that title designated military or marriner status?  Probably
both.   There were also a LOT of ministers.
